A while back one of the mags had an article comparing shackles for use connecting anchors to chain. I seem to recall that the preferred ones were calibrated "d" shackles. Can anyone recommend a web-source for buying one?

Jimmy Green -yellow pin. Be careful of pin sizes as they are different to the size of the body of the shackle

Green Pin are the originals from Van Beast (probably spelt wrong) in Holland. The Yellow, Red, Blue, Orange, White, Silver and that's the colours I've seen, are copies but very usable. Given a choice pick the greens one but otherwise try not to get a colour that clashes with your paint scheme on the boat. It's all in those little details you know /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

'D' or 'Bow' doesn't matter unless you have a skinny bow roller.

You could use BS (British Standard) 'some number' I've forgotten. They are also higher strength and usually tested. Again the pin size is up a size form the body. Usually if you ask for a, say, 13mm one you will get one with a 13mm pin and smaller body. The BS are still probably in inches.
