Our new to us mobo, a Birchwood TS37 from 1986 has an anchor hawse pipe that restricts anchor selection and later models had a more normal roller system bolted on deck. I want to upgrade the anchor to either a Delta, Manson or even Rocna, none of which will fit the existing set up. It would be useful to have a double roller and a means of locking the anchor in place when stowed on the roller.

What are the loads to consider, sheer or tensile and how best to plan for these in design. Windlass is a Lofrans Kobra with horizontal drum and below deck motor with plenty of free fall space for chain of which we have 60 metres of 10mm. probable anchor will be a 45lb Delta as we have had several, have confidence in it and most importantly can afford it.

Any standard rollers that might work?

Doubt you will find a double bow roller of the shelf. suggest you google anchor bow Rollers for images and suppliers as a start for your search. If the later model suits you may be able to find out who made it through the owners association.

I am building a 43ft cruising yacht. Like you I wondered about the "What are the loads to consider, sheer or tensile and h........." so I went to one of my textbooks "Cruising under sail":A J Lucas and his advice was to build it heavy. But he was a cruising yachtsman who sailed the North of Australia in poorly surveyed water. Sometimes he had to move his yacht and do it it a hurry. On two occasions he couldn't get the anchor up so he reversed the yacht as far as he could and then with full throttle he managed to rip the anchor out. He said with an off-the-shelf rollers you couldn't do that. I took his advice and made one up.

I have no idea what a standard roller costs but they don't look too robust to me.

Did you consider a Vulcan anchor? It's Rocna's solution for the "roller bar don't fit me boat" problem. Supposedly performs nearly as well as the roller-barred Rocna, although I haven't tried it myself.

Not a roll bar problem it is the shanks that don't fit the hole or can jam. a Brittany or Fortress would fit shank wise but prod the bow grp on raising as have to be upside down to stow in the ole.
