Can anyone give advice on how to secure a stainless steel plate to the bow of a Beneteau 331? The plate will be positioned on the starboard side of the bow just under the anchor roller fitting. Its job will be to protect the fibreglass from being damaged by the tip of the anchor as it is raised. I'm uncertain as to what sort of screw to use and shoiuld it be bedded on someting like Sikaflex? Thank you.

My noseplate was glued on with resin by the builder (Cygnus). Then the keel band and iroko cap was placed over the top of it.

We are about to have a plate made for just this purpose on Serendipity. My intention was to fix it in place with Sikaflex. I wasn't going to screw it at all.

If I get the profile right and it matches the curvature of the bow OK, I don't see it falling off if I get the Sikaflex bit right as well. I don't fancy any screws into our topsides on the stem - but that's just me.

I'm sure Claymore of this parish talked about doing this some time ago. I can't remember if he actually got round to it, but maybe he's having his mid-morning lurk and would care to share his experiences?

I'm thinking of the same, to protect the bow (on a Fisher 34). Any (easy) suggestions how to get a moulded pattern of some sort, to take to the S/S fabricators so they can create an exact fit?

I've had this done by the local shop on a couple of boats (and there are at least six more boats here that have had the same) and it was done by using a cardboard pattern to get the shape for the s/s as near "perfect as possible, and then using Sikaflex and six s/s self tappers to hold it in place. I have never had a problem with this method. The screws are in the topsides where there is only the chain locker behind them, so even if there was a small leak the water would drain away: but the self tappers need not be too long as they are only there as security the Sikaflex does the real holding.

Sorry to raise an old thread but...
Can anyone recommend a supplier of such protectors, preferably Solent area?
Has anyone any experience of the stick on steel panels which are only 0.5mm thick for this use?

Thanks

Had a plate made to fit the curvature and just fixed with Sikaflex several years ago. No problems at all. I remember that it was held on with tape until the Sikaflex had cured.

Those stick on bits of stainless are ridiculously expensive and as they can be cut with scissors I wouldn't have thought that they would offer any real protection
