Hi all does anyone know the approximate weight also is a bounty 27 mk2 Can it legally be trailered on UK roads.
thanks in advance

The Bounty MkII is a re-badged Elysian 27, which weighs about 2800kg fully stripped out, tanks empty.

It's way too big for trailing. Unless you passed your test before 1997, you will be restricted to a maximum gross train weight (boat +trailer + towing vehicle) of 3500kg. In addition, the beam of 2.9m exceeds the maximum allowable towing width by 35cm.

This happened only a mile from me a couple of years ago: similar sized boat and trailer (Hampton Safari, towed by a 4x4) jack-knifed and ended up facing the wrong way on a dual carriageway. The driver had been warned by the boatyard that it was not a suitable load, but he thought better...

Ok thanks I have been driving for 30 years my nephew has a hgv license and a large 4x4 Mitsubishi.
do you think it would still be illegal to move my boat with a twin axel braked trailer. There is a 3500 kg trailer for sale at the moment.
your advice is much appreciated

Add to that, if you passed your test before 1967, you have presumablh reached 70 years of age, and been required to apply for a new driving licence where you will be required go undergo all the medical and eyesight assessments specified to obtain a HGV licence or lose the right to tow a train exceeding 3500 kg. Not many bother with all those tests and reports. Last time I looked, a Mitsubishi 4x4 was classed and taxed as a motor car.

Thanks for your advice

I have assumed that the max trailer width of 2.55m includes the load it is carrying. I can't find any separate mention of max load width.

I've found this: https://www.rya.org.uk/sitecollectiondocuments/legal/Web Documents/Legal Leaflets/Members Advice/Trailing/TRAILING AND ROOF RACKING THE RULES AND REGULATIONS.pdf

Relevant portion:

Projection of Loads on Trailers and on Roof-Racks

The projection of a load on a trailer or roof-rack may be up to 305mm on either side of the vehicle or trailer, provided that the overall width of the vehicle or trailer (including projections) does not exceed 2.9m. If the load for towing is wider than 2.9m then the police must be informed in advance of the journey. It the load width exceeds 3.5m then the police must be informed and an assistant carried. The maximum permitted width for the vehicle/trailer and its load is 4.3m.

So you might just squeak in at 2.9m. The law states that you must have an adequate view of the road behind you, so if your boat trailer/load is wider than the rear of the towing vehicle, you will need to fit suitable towing mirrors. And obviously the gross weight of the trailer & load must be within the capacity stated for the vehicle.

PS I'm not an expert, I just know how to use Google :)
