I am planning on leaving Wells in the morning and heading over to Boston - I think I will be coming up the channel in the evening with the rising tide with the rising tide

high water is about 8.40

- so it will be dark

I can get through the lock into the Whitam on weds morning at 10.30 or so

so.....

does anyone have any suggestions about where I can tie the slug up

I did overnight in Boston in the summer and the banks are really steep and there is a lot of debris in the way of old boats etc at the bottom of the walls near town - so that seems a bit worrysome and tough tieing up neatly by myself

anyone got any suggestions about whrre I can tie the slug up for the night

it was suggested that I tie up to one of the fishing boats,.... but that seems a bit iffy to me - I might get disturbed by an angry bloke the next morning

is there anywhere in the river that I can anchor where I am not going to get run down or bits of bank where I can beach the slug in the mud without it ending up right over on its ear

Good job you mentioned Lincolnshire, otherwise people would think you'd put on a spurt in the last couple of days, finished off the rest of Britain & Ireland and were already three quarters of the way up the eastern seaboard of the US.

I think he's getting confused with Kent Walton and the Boston Crab.

Not much help are we ?

E. and SE will be nice for you though.

Hope it holds.

I think that there is a waiting pontoon (that dries) just upstream on the London Road bank of the Black Sluice lock. Not sure about getting ashore, there may be a locked gate, but ring the Environment agency who put it there.

I went into Boston most years 2000 to 2006 about this time of the year. We always used to moor up against the fishing boats on the left just past the swing bridge.

I think some of the fishermen own the quay. They were very friendly and helpfull. We used to pay about £25 per boat (normally 2 boats) to moor overnight and they lowered our masts for us with their on-deck hoist. We did stay 3 nights one year at no further cost. The pub just over ther road from that quay is OK and I think there is a fish and chip shop just further up that road.

We were made very welcome by the fishermen. I think Boston might have changed in that I think you can get into another waterway just before the swing bridge, and it might be possible to moor outside the lock if that is the case.
It might be worth phoning the Port of Boston Harbour Master to see if there is likely to be any commercial traffic when you are going up the river in the dark so the pilot will watch out for you, and you for them, as there is enough room to pass but it is not over wide.

Just up river from the railway bridge. There are EA toilets and showers and walking access to supermarket. You'll need to understand the locals lingo though
