Bosch Equvalent Injectors

I'm still having mega problems finding a pair of injectors for my Volvo Penta MD7A. I can't go sailing (motoring) until I replace them so I'm desperate!

The number stamped on the injector bodies is KBAL65P 1/4. I understand these are Bosch injectors but I can't locate the equivalent Bosch number. I'm not overly hopeful but with the Bosch number it's possible the same injectors were used in other engines - marine or cars! I've also been told that part of the KBAL65P 1/4 part number refers to the pressure and spray pattern and I might be able to utilise similar injectors and then have the pressure/spray pattern adjusted by changing the nozzles, however I'm unsure what part of the part number is the crucial bit (to fit into the engine) and what part is the changeable or adjustable part of the injector.

Any helpful advice welcomed. The original injectors were physically damaged by me when I removed them during a rebuild, they're not acceptable for reconditioned exchange units and appear to be unrepairable, the cost of new Volvo Penta injectors is not far short of the cost of buying a new Oyster 72 including engine and Rocna anchor.

If you've irreparably damaged the old injectors, you're going to have to fork out for new ones. Prices for new injectors start at around £100 for common ones, so yours may well be more. You can buy new VP injectors for about £250 each, so in the long run it may well be the easiest solution.

If you want to pursue alternatives, your existing injector is apparently the same as Bosch 0432191882 - I think this is just the body, but that's the bit you want. See http://www.zexelpump.com/bosch_dllap_kbalp.htm for reference.

Have you tried a local diesel pump shop? Your number is the body number, so if the nozzles are ok you can swap these and the innards over to new bodies. Unless you have an injector tester you won't know what the opening pressure of the injector is going to be if you swap everything over, and with different bodies they are going to be way out. You talk about nozzles having the same opening pressure, but the pressure is adjusted within the injector by using different shims. The only problem is that your injector bodies may be obsolete, but try your diesel specialist first, they may be able to source some, unless you have the equipment to fit the nozzles you would need to go there anyway.

Try the local 'Andrew Page' supplier, they have a nationwide network and very helpful in finding equivalent items on their own database.

They are open to the public as well not just trade.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice, especially to Pete with his cross referenced part numbers. Yes, I've been trying all sorts of tactics to find a couple of secondhand injectors suitable for reconditioning but I haven't hit the jackpot yet! I think, as the rebuilt (by me) engine is an unknown quantity simply as far as its eventual running qualities are concerned, the most economic solution is going to be to buy a complete used but professionally rebuilt engine from a company in Dorchester for slightly more than twice the cost of the 2 new injectors I need for my own engine rebuild. If I had confidence n my own mechanical abilities I might splurge £500 or more on new injectors but the truth is, even with new injectors the engine might still be a basket case after all my interventions!

I'll hang fire for another month to see if I can find a pair of used injectors for a reasonable price but then I'm going to have to bite the bullet if my little boats ever going to be launched.

Current listing for them is £300 - 360 each - I thought Yanmar was dear !

Surely injectors can be rebuilt ? In what way are they damaged ? Shame to see your rebuild work go to waste. Get to a good diesel injector specialist ( not marine ! ) and say - hey, can you fix these !
