Hello,
I would like to see if the old dynastart will spin if connected to the car battery. I dont have a regulator neither a solenoid so i dont know if this is possible without it. I dissasembled it, cleaned everything and hope it will spin now! Here is a wiring diagram

The terminals are
D-
30
D+
DF

I assume that connecting to D- and 30 to the battery will give current to the stator? And then which remaining terminal should be connected to activate the rotor?

Thanks

Cant remember the terminal numbers but casing for negative ,the bigger terminal for positive strait onto battery for a test, through external solenoid in use .

Do you have a wiring diagram ?

I have the wiring instructions ( from Fairways Marine) for the new type regulator which is used with a separate starting relay to replace the old type control box

It appears that to test the starting function all you need to do (assuming it is a Bosch) is battery + to 30 and battery - to D- ( For the Ciba ones the case is the negative connection)

Presumably the new type regulator is "solid state"

I will photograph and post the info I have later ( scanner defunct!)

Now done Instructions for new regulator .. and wiring of old type control box with run/charge switch and ignition

Thank you for your replies. I didnt have hope for the dynastart because it had sea water in it for more than one year but spent some days dissasembling it and cleaning it and finally it spinned!
I connected 30 to + and D- to - as you suggested.
For some reason i cant see where is the attach button, so i wasnt able to post the diagram but here is
the link of the pic

Vic thank you for your detaled feedback! i think this is a similar diagram? with the regulator having 1 extra terminal ( the B+/51)

As my finance is limited,I am thinking of buying just the solenoid and use the dyna as starter only , and add a car alternator (cost 25-30 euros) with internal regulator for charging. Would you recommend this set up?

A car alternator will give more amps to charge your battery, assuming you have the DIY skills to fit it.

Adding an alternator, but keeping the Dynastart for starting, is a known, if not common, method of upgrading / improving the charging capabilities.

The button for adding attachments is one of the tools on the formatting tool bar above the text entry box ... the one with a picture of a tree on it.

If you dont see any formatting tools you need to change from the basic to the standard message editor interface in My settings / general settings / miscellaneous options or select "go advanced"

Looks like i had to push the button "full site". It works great now!

Here i found an 80A relay for only 3.20 euros only..( they asked about 30 in an auto shop..)
Would that type do the job for igniting the dynastart?

I hope i will be able to connect a 3 wire alt with internal regulator. I have the original SEV but probably will pay more for an external regulator for this.

Shop around if you want a regulator for the SEV.
I have been looking for a external regulator for a an alternator and find prices varying from under £20 to over £120

Sorry I dont know the spec of the relay but I am thinking they may be 200amp. Scroll down this page and see the options http://www.dynamoregulatorconversions.com/dynastarter-kit-shop.php

Problem is i dont know what regulator i should search for.. But i ll go by the shops together with the SEV and search before i quit it.

Thats straightforward i guess thank you. I found a 200amp (max 300) solenoid for 15$ on ebay ( chinese miracle lol)
Strange but i spent time searching for the current the dyna will draw for cranking but couldnt find anything.
