As per previous post, my oil pressure guages ain't working properly. They are "intermittent" , meaning that one dances up and down (no, the needle not the guage you dumkopf!) and the other works then stops working. I admit to fiddling around with the looms in order to fix an intermittent fuse holder fault that stopped my stbd engine, so I must have dislodged something.

Where is the physical location of the pressure sensor on the engine? Does the electrikery go through the big loom thingy with the large rubber plug / socket on the engine, or does it route independent of this on a separeate wire? Are there any relays involved along the way? Anything else I should know?

Thanks Chaps

Hi Dave,

Boring answer, that IMHO will be spot boxxock.

The sender, or transducer will be fitted into a threaded entry into the main oil delivery gallery. This is often adjacent to the main oil filter mounting area, On many largish Fords(5-6litres) there is a feed right through the block and the oil feed to the turbos sometimes comes from the same point.

There may be two senders adjacent to each other, one would be for the pressure gauge, the other could be for the pressure warning switch. A sticky sender, or indeed a stickypressure relief valve would make the gauge oscillate. It would be reasonable to swap the senders between the pair of engines(assuming you have two of course!) enabling you to determine whether it was sender or relief valve.

If problem ONLY occurred after you disturbed the spaghetti(sorry, wiring), then forget relief valve and concentrate on wiring. Word of caution, only try ONE thing at a time or you will confuse yourself into bargain. Good luck.
