Hi,
The Borg Warner Velvet Drive 71c in my freeman 33 is not moving into neutral properly. The shifter moves to the neutral position but the box continues to drive forward. It appears that the forward drive clutch is sticking. Even when I start the engine it starts driving forward. I tried holding the shaft but there no way I could stop it.
I have been told it may need to be rebuilt or it may free up after some use.
Has anyone seen this before?
Thanks!

When you say the shifter what do you mean? the control lever at the helm or the lever on the box? check the travel on the cable, remove it from the lever on the box and move the lever fully forward until you feel the detent, then move it to the reverse position again you should feel the detent, then "feel" for neutral again there is a detent, start the engine and if the shaft rotates then you have indeed got a dodgey box and it will require a strip down and repair. How long has it been idle? you could try draining and refilling with ATF, CLEAN THE FILTER GAUZE inside the pipe outlet fitting.
