I have a B/W direct drive gearbox that operates correctly, but the problem is that in neutral the shaft slowly turns forward, which is a nuisance when coming onto a beach berth with the odd line across it. I am wondering if anything can be done to stop this.? I have changed the ATF oil but the problem persists.

Fit a new overhaul kit from ASAP supplies and life will be good.

As the chap says. But also, check carefully the splines on the inner hub of the forward clutch, if grooves are worn where the plates land on the splines the plates don't fully disengage and can cause the prop to continue to turn.

Thanks for the advice. I don't know if it is my imagination but there seems to be a rattle coming from the engine only in gear ahead. Would this be anything to do with clutch plates?
I have not seen the inside of a velvet drive but if this shaft creeping in neutral becomes any worse I shall have a look at it.
Thanks, Chris.
