Just before I start on the annual repaint I wonder what I can do to reduce
excessive weed growth above the water line on my unprotected boot top?

I use Seajet Shogun below the water and it is OK (Chichester Harbour)
could be better, could be worse, but the boat grows a beard at the water line.

last year I left the fibreglass untreated but is there something I can apply to keep it off?

And by the way, painting lanolin on my prop did not work, in fact growth is greater than on the anti fouled leg so I am going to try propshield this year!

I'm in Chi Harbour too, and noticed that last year was particularly bad for it... I've never had to scrub the boot top before, but did it a couple of times last year.... which makes me wonder if it was weather related......

Not an answer, just saying I had the same experience..

Same here, also in Chichester.

Years ago International made transparent antifouling to apply above the boot-top for exactly this purpose, but it actually stopped weed so it was banned.

Isn't that what boot top lines are for?

I have a White stripe between my dark green topsides and black A/F. This is painted with International Trilux. One small tin lasts several seasons. It is a bit of a fiddle, but is quite effective and IMHO looks smart. :D

Lanolin, growth loved it, we applied to prop, saildrive and leading edges of bow, rudder and keel. We had much more growth where we used lanolin (but we are in Oz). We use Trilux 33 as boot top, it seems to work.

Simple, cover the boot top with A/F and if you must have a boot top, put a new one on higher up :D

Better still, listen to what the boat is telling one and remove some of the accumulated junk !

At least that's what I have promised; though it can also be a sign of a mooring chain which is on the short side and needs attention.
