Boot top paint

Reading the recent post about raising the waterline made me think about the boot top line ... This year the Blakes Tiger Extra Antifoul worked well in Chichester Harbour, with only a layer of slime at the end of the season. This is the best performance so far, (with Seajet Shogun the worst). But the boot top line, painted with the Blakes Boot Top paint, did have some weed attached at the lower edge.

So the question is ... can I substitute a contrasting colur of antifouling paint for the special boot top paint to give a contrasting waterline stripe, which wont get weedy? Or would eroding A/F not work as the boot top line is mainly dry, and not under water.

Or is the proper solution to raise the level of the boot top/antifouling line.

I used International Micron Extra this year for the bootop and it was completely useless. I don't know what to try next.

I used Seajet Shogun antifouling and there was only the slightest slime that took a few minutes with a small pressure pump to wash off and a few barnacles on the leading edge of the rudder where it is washed by the prop and had all disolved. The best a/f I have ever used and this is the third year with the same result. It will be Shogun again next year. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Other boats from the same mooring area were coming out much heavier fouled.

Strange. It worked superbly on mine. I've used it for years and don't recall any problems at all. Perhaps you're in an even more high fouling area than we are.

I asked this question around the marina, and the almost unanimous reply was to raise the level of the antifoul and have a two tone boat instead of a stripey one. (seems like the cheaper option as well)

I suggest you take pictures and contact International as I am sure they will replace any antifoul if you have had growth. I must say that I havent heard of any problems exccept where there has been a large volume of dredging - in which case international have replaced the product even though it wasnt their fault
