I went to order a new sale cover the other day having binned the old one and realised I do not know the length of my 1979 Westerly Centaur- apparently 12 or 13 foot. Has anyone got a 79 Centaur and know the boom length?
The sailcover should be the length of the foot of the sail not the boom length which is probably longer. You will also need to know the height of the mainsail when stacked assuming you are using slides which stay in the mast track.
Alternatively if you like me use the sail bolt rope in the mast track and remove it from the mast you will need to know the circumference of the bundle of mainsail at the front of the boom (fatest part) and also the cover maker will need to know how fat the roll of sail is midway and toward the outer end. Finally the boom diameter.
You want the cover to be loose but not too loose and certainly not too small. Go and measure.......olewill
I just happen to have my old Centaur cover in the office here having replaced it a couple of weeks ago.
If I lay it flat, then I measure 3.68m from the front of the zip to the clew end.
I got the new one from C&J marine & they knew the dimensions anyway. There are so many centaurs around I'd guess most makers should have the dimensions.
