My new Yanmar 1GM10 has been installed, together with a new shaft anode and a new hull anode to replace the old units.

The Hull anode has new studs with several crimp type terminals on one stud awaiting connection but no connections have been made by the installers??!!

To save a lot of messing about I propose to do the connections myself as I have a good ratchet crimper.

The questions are:

What items should I connect the anode to?

What SWG wire should I use?

Thanks

You may not need the hull anode at all as the shaft anode might be enough. If you do want to connect it then to one of the bell housing bolts that connect the gearbox to the engine. If you want it to protect the prop then you may have to bridge the coupling if it is the flexible type. Normally no need to connect to anything else assuming the skin fittings are not connected to anything else other than with non metallic hoses. The engine has its own anode, cunningly hidden behind the alternator above the starter motor.

Thanks for this. Sounds like belt & braces to me as gearbox connected to propshaft with solid coupling. Oh well I'll connect it anyway.

Your point about the seacocks has set me thinking. A new raw inlet with seacock has been fitted. The hose to the strainer is transparent wire reinforced but I suppose the plastic strainer will insulate this from the engine?
