Bombard Classe 2 6-person life raft for sale...

Very interested
But
Could I ask for the advice of those that know me and my boat ( 21ft Debutante )
Would this suit my needs ? or would it be a bit OTT ?
Anyone
Help

It's too big Dave. You only want a 6-man if there are 6 on board regularly (or like my boat, was once a registered training vessel and has 6 berths). It is much too big and heavy. This is only for desperate times and a 6 man with only 2 or 3 in would be unstable. I got rid of my 6 man canister raft because I could pick it up and never have 6 on board.

Sorry Cambridgedon - It's a good buy for someone who wants one.

Thanks for that , I had a feeling that would be the case but thought best to ask others
Mind you
I could always buy it and sell it elsewhere /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I agree with Roger Dave, and yes Cambridgedon, sorry. It seems that the smallest regular type you can get is 4 man (a comfy stretch for 1 in reality) but a 6 man would be OTT without a doubt. I've heard you can get 1/2 man ex-aircraft type liferafts which might suit better. Alternatively, look at renting if it is for specific journeys. Typical rental costs per month or so look similar to annual/bi-ann service costs of your own. Just a thought !

Had our 4 man BFA serviced last year gets very close to the cost of a new one (within £80 OR £90 if i recall correctly) not sure if i would bother next time just replace and sell on the old one,

sorry Cambridgedon just want to let the guys know that yes its a good buy but there can be a hefty charge for servicing

Servicing a liferaft can be expensive - and as you said, close to the cost of a new one. But what new one? The cheapest available?

Last year I took my Autoflug in to be serviced at Suffolk Sailing. It had not been serviced for 12 years. And it was 18 years old.
I was advised that the service was going to be in the region of £350. Shock, horror.
I suggested that I would be better off buying a new one. I was told I could, but I would be getting something vastly inferior to the one I've got. research confirmed this to be true.
This year the service cost me £85. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That looks like a very painful financial experience, however I am not surprised as I have in the past found Suffolk Sailing to be on the pricy side of life.

Looking back on my records I had an Avon 4 man serviced at Marine Safety Centre Lowestoft, some 2 years ago at £158 inc all flares consumables and the dreaded VAT.

Last year I had an EV 6 man for its first 3 year service and that also included all flares parachute and hand helds plus all the other consumables & batteries (no water) again that was sensible at £157.08 inc VAT.

I have used them for over 10 years, but I appreciate it’s probably a bit off the beaten track for you chaps, but great service and nice to be able to say sensible prices.

Have fun……… Peter
