As we left Dale about 15:00 this afternoon, a group of military types in khaki parked a van clearly marked as a bomb disposal unit next to the cafe. As we headed back towards Haverfordwest, another, larger van towing a big RIB, also marked bomb disposal passed us.

Anyone know what was going on?

We were talking to friends who were at Dale this evening (by road) and apparently the crew headed out in the rib. People were saying that a suspect item had been found in the bay. Don't know anymore info as to the exact location etc.

Would be interesting to know what happened.

On another note, as a keen reader of your blog and a previous Mirage owner I was hoping to meet you at Dale or on the water at some point. We were there last weekend on the outer pontoon and could see a couple of dinghies tied to the stern of Ishtar. I couldn't see anyone about though.

Thanks for that Ian, maybe some more news will turn up.

Yes, we have a rigid tender that we take out to the mooring, and sometimes use an Avon if we are out and about. IIRC, last weekend, we were helping another mate sort his mooring out, so it's possible we were on his boat.

Next time, come and say hi. :)

A World War II sea mine discovered off the Pembrokeshire coast is due to be destroyed later on Monday.

The device found off Skomer Island will be towed out to deeper water about two miles from land where it will be detonated at about 1130 BST.

The mine was found by divers earlier this month. A previous attempt to destroy it was delayed by bad weather.

Milford Haven Coastguard said vessels are being warned to avoid the area on Monday.

Royal Navy explosives experts are carrying out the detonation.

Maybe its a good idea to dive with ally cylinders......some of the mines were activated by magnetic influence.
