An interesting recent occurrence at a jetty on the Thames. Large vessel, with a foreign crew, discharging cargo. Deckie dropped a handheld VHF which went over the side and in to aforementioned river. Without hesitating, the Deckie (dressed in boiler suit and boots) dived in after it, tried to retrieve it and after a minute or so gave up and climbed out on the rope ladder nearby. The weather last week was very cold with a biting Easterly making it less than zero. Apparently the VHF set is a month's money to the poor chap. I'm so glad I bought a buoyant set.......
