Only became aware today that Bob Tough MBE died at the end of last month. Bob's father Douglas was responsible for collecting together many of the boats that became the Dunkirk Little Ships and was a Past Commodore of the ADLS. Many on the river will have been aware of the Toughs boatyard at Teddington.

I owned a Tough's Cobra for almost 6 years and have very fond memories of dealing with Bob on numerous occasions, in particular one winter when Toughs carried out a huge refit on her.

Sad loss. Great character.

Yeah my dad had a Cobra for over ten years too!!

Cobra

Great boats. Picture taken just after the re-fit was completed at Tough's yard.

"Linton Lass" is still around too. Based on the Broads somewhere.

... moored up with Richmond Venturer too. We have a connection to her. (Though I suspect it is co-incidence and they are just sharing a pontoon).

That was the Venturer before Anneka Rice did her challenge.

Link to the ADLS site showing the dedication ceremony to the Teddington Memorial mentioning the not insignificant role Bob Tough's father played in the Dunkirk evacuation. There's a picture of Bob Tough on Thamesa.

He must have lived to a good age. He was no spring chicken back when I knew him.

Used to work there in the seventies, spent many a happy hour onboard various craft, especially liked it when we had to go out to the measured mile near Southend for speed trials.....a nice day out. :)
