Heartless bugger :)

What a quiet, grey place today! All those sad looking boats on hardstanding....just a couple of NBs and us....lots of Doom Bar and snacks....
Plenty of herons and grebes.....

Happy New Year everyone!!!

P.s

What do Indian boaties decorate their boats with?

Onion Burgees :)

Thanks for the message:) I was helming the huge steel thing, not my usual craft. I was surprised to see so many boats moving thought we would have the river to ourselves.

Disappointed to find Shiplake was on handwind only, too much exercise after Christmas:(

Ahhh got it! Good to meet you in passing,

Shiplake was a nightmare.....thought I was going to pass-out after the festive over-indulgence!

Fortunately on the way back we shared the work with an NB on their way to Maedurham....

Have a great New Year :)

Hmm - very interesting -
Thought it was me getting old when winding locks, 'specially Shiplake bottom gate - but that was before it waas rebuilt.

More importantly, I thought all locks were on PP 24/7 now, so why was Shiplake on clockwork.

Could it be that EA have taken not of "our" concerns and put everything on hand wound rather than OOps?

EA take notice of boaters??? Surely not..

Send for B1,

Calling B1,

Is there anyone there.......

Not much use shouting for me, I'm afraid. I wasn't there and didn't know. Did anyone ring the EA Emergency Helpline Number?
We might well ask why Shiplake was not on OHP - I may well do that next week.
If someone involved would like to complete the TMBA Report Form it would make it easier for me.:D

No explanation posted at the lock....just a handwritten sign in the lockies office window. Also, the downstream gates did not have the 'self service' sign displayed until I changed it. Some poor sod coming upstream may have waited for ages....we came back up during what was the nornmal lunchbreak so expected it to be on dislay. It was only because we knew otherwise that we went up to the lock.

When I mentioned the power issue at Sonning on the way back, our lockie suggested that there must be a problem and that Shiplake shared staffing from Marsh...
