Boat\'s Manual/Ships Standing Orders

Trying to think of the various headings that I need to include.

Safet is obviously the biggy and flag ettiquette, marina ettiquette and the song-book will obviously have to be included, but what other info should I put in?

How many sugars to put in the skippers tea is on the first page of mine. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: Boat\'s Manual/Ships Standing Orders

Only seven rules for a happy and safe ship...

Rule 1 - RORC Lifejacket/Harness Rules apply at all times
Rule 2 - Everybody on deck for sail changes - night or day
Rule 3 - Do not leave cockpit to go on deck unless there is somebody else in cockpit
Rule 4 - Pump out heads at least 20 times - if you block it, you clear it
Rule 5 - The maker of the meal does not wash up
Rule 6 - No criticisms - only suggestions for improvement
Rule 7 - there is no rule 7

On 5. I can see arguments both ways.

While having the cook not do the washing up certainly spreads the chores, there is a counter theory that a cook who knows (s)he will have to do the cleaning up afterwards will tend to generate fewer mucky pots & work surfaces in the first place...

Rule 7
Whilst under international maritime law the skipper is the responsible person, as far as the crew are concerned he's never to blame.

Re: Boat\'s Manual/Ships Standing Orders

1. Smoking is only permitted in the cockpit and on deck where it is openly encouraged.
2. Alcohol may not be consumed until the Skipper says so on a day to day basis. Offering the skipper a drink will force him to consider granting permission.
3. This is how the coffee machine works [details]. Skipper wants black, no sugar and a tot of something in it if between 09:00 and 08:59.
4. Berths are to be clean and tidy at all times, unless occupied. Skipper, due to weight of navigational responsibility, is expemt from this rule.
5. You block it, you unblock it.
6. If you use the chemiloo and it becomes full then either you empty it or you must precure a stand in. Skipper will stand in for alcohol or other favours depending on age, gender and nearness of blood relationship.
7. Music is by choice of helmsperson, or skipper.

Data page:

SSR, MMSI, LOA, Beam, Draft, Height.

List of things to remember to take home when you leave. (especially door keys, empty rubbish, shutting seacocks and where they are).

Quick reference guides to set up of instruments - radar etc.

Translation of French meteorological terms.

Beaufort Numbers, description, wind speeds and sails usually set, the visibility ranges for good, moderate etc, what steady, rising falling slowly quickly etc mean, sea state definitions, and the note that standard pressure is 1013mb if you are looking to assess effect on height of tide of pressure 0.1m for every 11mb.

I'm not sure that 'full chemiloo' and 'stand-in' are suitable terms to be used in the same sentence.
