Is boatsandoutboards.co.uk a real boat selling site or is it a scam? I noticed a boat advertised on a broker's site which is 33% less on Boats and Outboards, using exactly the same photos. What rings alarm bells is that the only phone number is a premium rate one. Are Boats and Outboards running a premium rate phone scam or are they simply providing a facility for other people to run them? It seems I can set up a premium rate phone line, copy a few brokers photos, stick it on one of B&O's free ads and I'm away!

The site is genuine. It isnt unusual on any site to find an advert cloned, and that advert is probably a scam.Common for boats on ebay, it seems.

It's run by The Friday Media Group Limited which used to be Friday-Ad and that was one of the original classified papers in the UK. I think that it has been around for more than 10 years so the site is probably genuine, unless it was sold on recently. But I don't suppose that means that the ads. are all genuine. I can't see how they would be able to check that all ads were on the level, but you could say the same about any similar site.

The site is genuine, it could well be that the owner is advertising separately & at a lower price than the price the broker is showing. I've seen this quite a few times, on Apollo Duck as well. The premium rate phone thing IIRC is an option when placing an ad on boats&outboards that can be used to protect the sellers private phone details, which of course it does, but boats&outboards will also make a profit on the premium rate numbers...
