Coming from the world of ditch crawlers, where churning out about 1100 new boats a year. Moorings are a real issue, ie lack of them, also British Waterways have had there funding cut by DEFRA, so its all going a bit pear shaped.
Whats the mooring situation on the coast/ estuary etc? waiting lists, cost and so on? I pay £79 a metre, no electric, water etc, just a bit of towpath.

Yes some places a bit more than Jez's prices I think? May depend on boats length perhaps, longers ones might be charged at a higher rate per metre.

Nigel mentions "just a towpath" - so no security? Most marinas pay much attention top this - security gates etc. Regarding berth availability; this appears to be much easier this season than previously for some reason. Imagine some of the older boats have been taken away because their owners reasoned the expense of keeping them in a secure berth not worthwhile.

We know somebody who has just had a new canal boat built to his own design. Not something I'd do - far rather have the open seas, than be resricted to inland waterways!
