Just sold my Rodman 38 flybridge through these people. I obviously have no interest in their business, but I would definitely recommend them if you are looking at boats in the Alicante, Spain region. Really good service for both parties all the way through. They suggested a sales price higher than I anticipated and we had four good offers in the first week. Top result.

After 22 years messing about with boats, that's it for me. I won't be buying another, probably rent every now and then instead.
For all those people who helped and answered my daft questions over the last twenty years, thank you all very much.

+1 for Boats and Barcos. Like you, I've no interest in their business. I read your post and got on to them to see if they could sell my boat out in Torrevieja. I thought it might stay on the market until spring/summer next year. Within a week, they had a buyer and the boat is now sold. Saved me a shedload of mooring fees. I don't know how they get their contacts, but they found me a buyer from Germany.
Just a recommendation from a satisfied customer, but if anyone's thinking of buying or selling out there, it's worth getting on to John or Chris.

Great and interesting input over the years, thanks.
Out of interest to us Med folk who will sell at some point.
Was your boat a UK pre Brexit purchased boat? Or maybe it was EUVAT paid from the start.
I‘m interested in the EU buyers attitude to a boat, pre Brexit, bought in the UK and taken to the EU which now will have EU VAT status.

DavidJ,
I bought a boat in Spain back in May and I am based in Ireland (EU). The boat was British owned and previously based in the UK. It was in the Med for the last 15 years. I was surprised that the owner didn’t take advantage of the grace period to bring it back to UK where it would have made more money. Maybe they didn’t want the hassle.
Anyway it became EU Vat paid once brexit day kicked in. I got a copy of the original VAT receipt and proof from the marina that the boat was in their marina on the 31/1/20.
The UK is no longer an option for Irish boat buyers. In fact, I heard of a few Irish boats being bought by Scandinavian buyers due to the UK be off limits due to VAT and Duty.

That’s interesting
You clearly understood all the legalities of proof of location Dec 31 2020 but I wonder if a Spaniard could be bothered to get his head around all this Brexit collateral stuff unless there was a real advantage in purchasing an ex Brit boat against the same EU origin boat.
Just as an aside
The grace period still stands if you were the original exporter before Dec31 2020

My boat was VAT paid in UK and confirmed located at Torrevieja on 31 Dec 2020.
The German buyers apparently had no issues with this. They are, however, now registering the boat under the German flag.

I did my research but the broker was really good and he understood what I needed. I got a letter from the marina stating that the boat was in Mallorca on 31/1/20. I also got a copy of the invoice for mooring for that year from April to April.
The broker was well up to speed and had experience of selling boats to other parts of the EU.

That’s interesting

What was reassuring is that friends of mine with a (15-20 yr old) Sealine, those from SCM will know them, brought his boat back to the UK after ‘exporting’ it pre Brexit four years ago. The transport company handled all the paperwork with no problems.
I guess no one is looking at the CE, UKCA potential issue of importing a boat with engines which don’t satisfy the later standards.
I haven’t really got my head around this bit but it may only apply for goods imported to sell??
Sorry for extenuating the drift @kashurst

You gave me some great advice when I was boat hunting, so thanks for that. Wherever this turn in the road takes you, I wish you long days and pleasant nights!
