Right well since i'll make my voice heard if i'm not happy with a service, i'll also compliment someone who gives great service.

I was looking all over the place to get some rope for the boat. I decided on 13mm Navy Dockline as it seemed to suit what I wanted. Got in touch with Boatropes ( eBay UK Shop - Yacht ropes: Anchorplait, Boat ropes, Parelli ) and asked for a quote

I wanted the following:
9m line with splice at the end
7m line with splice at the end
6m line with splice at the end

Total would be £51 including the £11 P+P airmail to Ireland. I was delighted when package arrived and see that the postage alone was £10.81 - Often been overcharged postage to Ireland with the seller nabbing a bit of extra cash from it

When the ropes arrived I was really pleased with the quality of the work carried out. See for yourself:

See the last pic, amazing hand-work IMHO. He accepts PayPal and has very good communication which is important to me.

I think he does more rope than he has on eBay so if you're after new rope, do your research and drop him an e-mail for a quote. I found him considerably cheaper than other UK outlets

I also recommend Boatropes. I have bought mooring lines from them twice over the last four or five years. Excellent helpful speedy service and keen price. I believe Boatropes is Barry Edwards' trading name, so it is his name that appears in the emails.

The only thing to be aware of is that he does not supply as big a variety of ropes as a large chandlery (at least, he didn't when I last bought from him), but for what he does supply he is excellent.

I have no connection with Boatropes / Barry apart from being a very satisfied customer.

10/10 for Boatropes. Barry goes out of his way to help his customers and the ropes/splices etc are first class. He has even sent us a replacement for an item that went missing and paid the postage himself; we were in France at the time! An excellent assett of this Forum is being able to let everyone else know what their experiences are with suppliers - be it good or bad.

alandee - Good to hear. Yup I agree, the great things about forums is to share our experiences, as you said, good or bad. Good business deserves to be credited and more customers, bad business deserve to die a death

Niall, I charged you £11.11 postage, it cost 30p less when I reached the Post Office only because I had cut your lines very carefully (the weight of your 3 lines was right on the limit for Airmail to Ireland) I'm normally a bit more generous wielding the hot knife.
Others can bear it mind that the doublebraid nylon dockline at 13mm (BS 3 tons) is available here in white navy black blue red gold burgundy. A wide range of colours assembled at the request of regular ..... equestrian customers, but handy for us yachties/boaties too.
10mm and 16mm sizes are white navy.

Charge me what you like, all I know is that you've had the most accurate postage quotes that i've ever gotten from a supplier

That's a compliment! I'll always allow a small extra on postage for the actual packaging but your P+P was spot on - fair play to you - Will definately be a returning customer
