Apropos nothing really, but interesting all the same, Fairline just issued a press release recording delivery of the 100th Squadron 78. http://www.fairline.com/en/news/fairline-boats-celebrates-100th-squadron-78-milestone-2013

All boats have their fans and non fans, etc, but it is pretty good going to do 100 of a hull this size and indeed have a forward order book that feels like it wont end ( I think the hull for 108 or something is already made...). So, many congratulations on this to the Fairline team (and thanks guys for the 2 of these fantastic boats that you made for me. Still loving the current one).

Hey MapisM, I know you will think the figures at the end of the press release are pure trivia, and you'll be 100% right (!) but don't worry about it and happy Christmas! :D :D

Fairline Boats celebrates 100th Squadron 78 milestone

Leading luxury motor yacht manufacturer, Fairline Boats, is celebrating a major milestone with the launch of its 100th Squadron 78

The original Squadron 78 was first unveiled to the world in 2003 at a prestigious event near the Tower of London. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength, becoming one of Fairline’s most successful and iconic luxury motor yachts with a very loyal following.

Kevin Gaskell, CEO Fairline Boats, comments: “We are incredibly proud of the fact that the Squadron 78 is now in its 12th year of production, which demonstrates the strength and appeal of its design and build quality. Our teams work tirelessly to ensure that every Squadron 78 is crafted to the owner’s exacting requirements, creating beautifully customised and bespoke luxury motor yachts.”

The 100th build of the Squadron 78 follows the recent launch of its most customised model ever, a Squadron 78 CUSTOM called MATCH 2. This was one of the Fairline Yacht Division’s most exciting and challenging build projects to-date with almost 400 custom items. MATCH 2 was the owner’s fifth Fairline and his second Squadron 78.

James Powell, Fairline Yacht Division EMEA, commented: “When we launched the Squadron 78 in 2003 we knew we had created a world-beating luxury boat. We have always enjoyed working closely with our customers to create high-end motor yachts that are truly unique. The entire team are incredibly proud of what we have achieved and we are very much looking forward to working with the future owners of new Squadron 78s.”

Comments Kevin Gaskell: “The combination of great sea-keeping, the highest build quality, customisation and strong residual value underlines the Squadron 78 as a market leader and will continue to do so well into the future.”

Top statistics about the Squadron 78:
• The total value of all the Squadron 78s sold to date is over £150million
• If you laid all the 100 Squadron 78s out in a line they would be the equivalent of 1.5 miles in length – that’s 1.5 miles of refined luxury motor yacht!
• A total of 1,942,200 man hours to build all 100 Squadron 78s
• Over 10,000 customisations have been undertaken across all 100 Squadron 78s – making it the most bespoke and customised Fairline boat ever
• Over 160,000 man hours to undertake those customisations
• 7,300 square metres of teak used
• 10,600 square metres of luxury carpet
• 558 tonnes of Coremat fibreglass with 1,200 tonnes of resin

Something for UK PLC to be proud of along with several other virtually unknown to public companies inc McLaren,Linn and Naim et al.
We can engineer along the worlds very best....if only we can get our kids weaned off the moronic football or X factor ideal and into doing something useful with their lives that will improve the world in general.

Wondering what is the most bizarre customisation request?

Leaving aside white caulking, internal staircases and fin stabilisers (which -the stabs I mean- are normal now, but not when hull #70 was built), the ones that strike me as a bit bizzare are a couple with gun/rifle cupboards for use hunting in northern Baltic ish waters I think, and deletion of the hi-lo platform. A couple have had day heads on the main deck, and a recent one had both forward shower rooms on the lower deck chopped in two to make more, but tiny, shower rooms. One that went to venuezela and is now in florida has a 7 foot wide bed in master cabin - handy I suppose :) No pole-dancing poles that I'm aware of...

Not at all. It was interesting to understand that the value of one Sq78 is 1.5m.
Could you give Kevin a call and assure him that the order for three sisterships of M2 which I'm going to send him in a minute is genuine?
Merry Xmas & happy NY to U 2... :)

It was 74 Squadron (without bathing platform) and less custom from 2003 till 2007. 78 Squardron Custom started production in 2007 with the main difference being the extended hi/lo bathing platform aft.

I think to remember 2007 also marked the start of the custom program from Fairline on the 60 feet plus models.
