Doing our best to signal recovery in the economy.
We managed to get an offer on our Jeanneau Prestige 32 within one week from a continental buyer....thank you Euro!! And we have now put a deposit on new Princess 42, which should be delivered mid May!!! Now we have to hope both transactions go well or I will have to change my subject to "boating hell".
Probably going to be boatless for several weeks in between...may have to cut the lawn!

Heading down to J32 for our last weekend on board, appropriately raining as it pretty much has since we bought it last year. Hope you all have great Easter and wish us luck on both transactions.

Well done. I too have a prestige 36 and would love to trade up to the princess 42. I think they are great boats.

I have heard that the continentals are still able ot grab our bargains, but for me I would want the transaction to be easy and stress free. So for that reason I havent even started the process. Silly really

But well done to you and Im sure you will be very happy with the 42

So far it has been stress free...listed boat on Saturday, first person that called came over on Thursday from continent, looked at it for two hours and left deposit. Keys from my perspective are:
-List with company who has good access to continental market
-Spend time on descriptions, elaborate on features of boat
-Take lots of pictures…helps people to visualize owning it. It amazes me that I see listings with fuzzy or brochure pictures
-Price it realistically;
-The first offer may well be the best offer. Don’t get emotionally attached and end up losing sale.

Best of luck. P42 is an amazing boat and best in class IMHO.

just a thought but if your getting a p42, would princess not take your 32 in part exchange??? saves a lot of hassle. I was hoping for a year old p42, which means you cant do a deal.

Part exchange is “stress free”, but also a “money free” option. We looked at PE angle, but they will only give you wholesale or slightly above for the exchange, particularly if they are not going to market it. In our case, we would have taken a £40k hit if we had done PE. With some brokers, you can do a PE on a used boat if the broker owns the boat you want to buy vs a brokerage boat.

Thanks for information, and I think thats quite a hit and not sure I would be comfortable paying that much. Would like the idea of part exchange on used but the only active company in the market with that seem to be essex boatyards and they only do Fairline which is not my prefferd choice.

By the way I thought from you earlier post you were down at the baot. We were at Porto Solento ( concrete jungel) yesterday and it rained all day, which made me put of a sail with my sons yacht in Brighton till tomorrow hoping the weather will improve.

Interesting . . . We're looking to put our old faithful on the market and have been advised to go continental. Good luck with the P42 and I hope the transaction wheels run smoothly.

THANKS. MIGHT THINK ABOUT IT SOON...PRIME BOAT BUYING SEASON AND i THINK THE POUND IS GOING TO STRENGTHEN AGAINST EURO AND DOLLAR OVER THE NEXT 6 MONTHS. GOOD LUCK.

Best of luck with it all; as you know, I'm in a similar position - albeit in the opposite direction. I sold the P42 a couple of months ago, and this week I have paid the deposit on a Fairline Targa 40 which should complete around the same time as yours. Now's the time to catch up on your diy! (Or in our case, help your friends deliver their boat from Spain to Malta... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Cheers
Jimmy
