Hi, I am new to this site but have been boating on Tidal Thames since 2007. In the past three years I have been keeping my boat on the trailer during the winter but this year I have kept it on its mooring. So I was just wondering if anyone goes boating during the winter?

Also, how do you guys feel about doing something for the new years' eve or christmas day?!

How come? I thought the lock keeprs work during the winter too.
You may bring your boat somewhere in the tidal part and moore it just before the new year (temporary mooring) so you can go on the boat over the holidays.

We use our boat all year round (not on the Thames though). Last christmas we spent boxing day until 2nd Jan aboard and had a thoroughly enjoyable time, despite being frozen in for the majority of the time. We did manage a couple of day trips out on the river though through the period then spent new years eve in the pub at the marina. We are doing the same again this year.

I bought a small 4stroke generator to supply our 500W oil filled heater as my boat is a day boat (seasafe pacific 550!). When I go boating I leave it in the cabin and it warms up the cabin so during our breaks we have a nice and warm place to sit down and have a cup of tea.

I did boating on Boxing day for the 1st time last year, it is so beautiful and nice and quiet. It was certainly my best day on the boat! :D

Lockies are there but they close some locks for refurbishment, depends where you are but for those of us further up all the timings mean you can't get to the tideway and back until the spring.

Thames winter boating.

Welcome to the forum Vandy, the fireworks on new years eve are pretty spectacular from the river. Where on the tidal Thames is your boat moored? I use my boat all year round on
the river, always able to run down to Greenwich Yacht club for lunch on Sundays. Even around to Rochester for one of their festivals. The best part is that there are not many
other boats about so mooring is easier.

GYC? I know a few people there... Stan and others...

my boat is moored in Kew Bridge. It is a 18ft Seasafe (seasafe 550). It has a big engine so I can easily cruise to Greenwich.

maybe we should all meet up for Christmas somewhere?

Even if not on the boat, but we can have a Christmas meal somewhere!

Vandy, I am a member of the Hurlingham Yacht Club at Putney, under the railway bridge. Why don't you come along on a Thursday night, we are open from approx 8pm with reasonably priced beverages. We arrange trips from there and socialize there. You would be more than welcome as a guest, no commitment required it is cheap if you want to commit. I will P M my mobile no.

The irony is, the Genny probably creates more heat than the heater!! :)
