Were based at Benson and are looking to join a cruising club.
We like pubs laughs and the odd juant to st Katherines or beyond.
I don't own a blazor nor wish to.
Any suggestions would be helpfull.

You will get a good welcome at Bray (although I realise it is based quite a way downstream from you).

I can honestly say I do not remember ever seeing our Vice Commodore (River) in a blazer!
Although many of the boats are based at Bray, our Commodore moors at Teddington and we have members who moor above Reading.

The Barbeques are legendary as is the consumption of alcohol by some of our members.

They are so helpful they will even get you to an event if you break down....

Hear Hear!

Blazers are simply a form of keeping tradition alive, so embrace them along with Red Dusters and VHF protocol....

Go Bray!

Your local Club is the Oxford Ditch Cruising Club which is sort of based in your area. They rarely dress up except for the annual sail past.

You mean you are not coming even by car??? You miserable.....

How you could interpret my previous as inferring non-attendance I fail to understand !

Legacy will be there - albeit in advance of the makeover - although she will have had a good scrub and, hopefully, not be looking too scruff.

Immediately after the TVR she will be off to the beauty parlour for the full Trinny & Susannah treatment.

..what you mean all fur and no knickers?

Glad to hear it, otherwise my boat would have been the scruffiest there!

Looking forward to it...

Severall ODCC members are moored at Benson, they definately won't be the ones waring blazers, look for the ODCC burgee and have a chat. I'm the current RC and moored just up above Days, pm me if you want to know more or we might see you out and about.

I have belonged to ODCC and Harleyford and continuously UTMYC at Sonning. Over the years I have also had the pleasure of attending functions at other Thames and non-Thames clubs.
I believe you will find that most follow very similar formats with events out on the river at different locations that will usually be informal and other more formal occasions where members will dress appropriately.
They will all have calanders of events and many will say the dress code, so it is rarely difficult to avoid the formal "do's" if that is not your bag.
Most of the clubs will have jaunts down the estuary to London and beyond if you wish.
As Byron says, ODCC is your local club with UTMYC a little further down but not much upstream until Swan Radcot who seem a very lively crowd, but will require a boat capable of passing under Osney Bridge.
Good luck.

The above link will give you a flavour for UTMYC.
