Anyone able to advise me as to whether I buy a boat hook head with a hook and a point , or two hooks Please. Also. . .I will try to include a pic of the remains of a holding device. . .what's missing ?
Thankyou. . . Erik

As it's the Royal Navy - probably something made of brass that needs polishing every morning.

How about a piece of brass flat strip, with a screw hole in one end and a slot in the other, so that it can be swung aside when you want to remove the boathook?

Boathook for your RN FMD

Hi Erik,

Would FMD be a 16ft Fast Motor Dinghy? It looks like the British Military Powerboat Team at Portsmouth Dockyard have one of these among their boats being restored. Doubtless they have researched the original drawings and can advise on the right boathook and fittings for a 1953 boat - theirs was built by Woodnutts on the Isle of Wight - just up the road from me - in 1951, so pretty close.

Here's the relevant page at their website:

Looking back at how an RN steam pinnace was restored for the RN Museum some years back, fairly authentically I think, I would opt for a boathook with twin hooks and the shaft finished white.

Interesting boat. Good luck.
