Hi Greatwhite, welcome to the nut house.

Can help with the boat other than it looks like some of the ones I use to look at whizzing around at Billing Aquadrome as a boy.

I hope you have great fun with her.

Regards,

Paul.

Hello all,

Thank you for the welcome to the forum.

I spent most of yesterday working on the boat. I now have her striped back to a bare hull and have just turned her over and started working on the inside after sanding back the hull and cleaning up the bad edges left from the mould, filling in the deep scratches and filling holes. She is now ready at least on the out side of the hull for two coat epoxy primer and then a nice white finish.

Pronut you mention about the engine bulkhead, it is part of the original deck mould it is not added on after, had a good look after you mentioned it yesterday. Kind of had to as the bulkhead wall has rotted though (another job to add to the list).

I am relocating the fuel tank to go under the rear seat instead of bolted to the back of the engine bulkhead. She was fitted with a four cylinder Ford but I now have a V6 Ford to go into her. Really the question is, if the engine fits is it a good idea to change from the original engine to a more powerful one?

More photo of the rebuild to come.

Looks like a 70's simms super V to me - was the old engine the ford corsair V4 ?
With the 3L essex lump you might have a weight problem - they were pretty low in the water to begin with. Will it rev high enough for the jet drive ? Would think a 1600 crossflow might be better - they can be readily tuned up a bit too.

Thank you for that ValleyForge, not sure what the engine was, the boat came after the engine had been taken out, and I was told that it was a Ford but looking at the engine mounts I think it was a straight four cylinder.

I did think about the weight of the V6 so thank you for the input. Can you buy marine exhaust manifolds for the 1600 crossflow? If so who are the best people to talk to?

Sorry, not sure what it is, but its not a Simms Super V. Most Super V's were 14ft, they didnt make a 16ft one till the mid 80's. Most of the 16's were Bowriders and as far as I can remember they were all 2 tone gel coat.

I thought it might be a Dateline Bikini, but the bow isnt quite right, its really difficult to identify without the screen. I'm sure someone will know exactly what it is.

I have check with the Windermere boat reg, but they have told me that they only keep records from 2000 and they think it was before them.
