Purchase of new boat nearly complete, she's a Hunter Channel 323 with a beam of 10ft. 1in. I'm presently toying with the idea of sending her to S.France from NE England by road transport. Could anybody please advise on cost and a suitable transport company?

Early summer would be spent bringing my other boat Kliever to England via the French inland waterways system and finding a suitable place/port to put her up for sale. Any good ideas where would be welcome.

Try John Shepherd on 01563 538 216 or 07836 706 119. He moved a Channel 323 for me and did an excellent job from North Wales to NW Scotland at half the price the local haulier was quoting.

No connection other than a satisfied customer.

a side point, If you are concerned about Insurance..... (a) make sure you are happy with the Insurance cover the Haulier is providing - many basic transport policies seem to cover them for £N,000 per ton (around £2-3K i think), which wont cover the value of many boats. (b) make sure they are actually insured. I paid around £200 extra to a Haulier to transport my boat with extra full cover insurance (to the value of the boat) and found that the cover was not in place when I called the insurance company to check the evening before the move - eventually after several calls to the Haulier and the Insurance company I got a faxed copy of cover from the Insurance company. It may have been a clerical error, but I wonder what would have happened in the event of a claim.
It's probably worth checking, particularly if you get a cheaper quote from a small haulier where there's a temptation to cut costs.

Thanks for good advice, will start phoning today. Point taken about insurance I was just going to ask my own insurers to accept the risk.

Still working out where to take Kliever.
