Can anyone recommend someone to transport a long keel 27 footer (3.75 tons) from Whitehaven to Windermere or Ullswater?

Try Beverly Transport somewhere near Hull, they are brilliant. The best I could do locally was £500 + VAT they did it for half. It seems they have a unit going round the country non stop and so long as you don't specify a specific day you get the best possible rate.

Isn't markup what brokers do !

I used Clarke and Sons from Dumfies area when I moved my cat from Inverness down to Dover. They were very proffessional and not overly expensive as they also had to do the police escort negoitation as well.
