Hi all,

Im on the verge of owning my first boat, that being a Cruisers International Holiday 224 packing a Volvo AQ171.

I want to make an offer on said vessel, which is in Rochester Kent but I will want it moored in Fambridge Yacht Haven, Essex, but Im seriously struggling to find a boat trailer hire company in Essex/Kent, or for that matter the entire south east :(

So, I dont suppose anyone knows of any trailer rental places that I have missed??

Thanks,

B.

I'm guessing it's only around 30 miles by sea, probably cheaper and more fun to drive it there.

That sounds a bit daunting, could anyone give me an idea of the amount of time it would take and what I would need to navigate?

Thats a pretty big lump of blue between points A and B!!

It comes with a VHF radio and garmin 120gps lol?

Trailer hire is very rare due to the damage that can be done by a novice. However, you might call 1 or 2 of the transport companies that advertise in the back of MBM. They will quote for the job, expect circa £400-£500, but might know of a trailer hire company. Alternatively try the brokers at a couple of marina's. They might help.

A skipper for the day would be cheaper than hiring a trailer, and you'd learn loads in the process.

Cheers
Jimmy

Didnt think of that, I have sent an e-mail to mcl marine asking for a "skipper for a day qoute" Cheers Jimmy.....

In other news I have been qouted £380 for transporting from Rochford, kent to Fambridge, Essex add the £130 each end for getting the boat out at kent and in at fambridge and this is looking like the most expensive 420dd miles in history. :o

That's begging to be a shakedown cruise with a more experienced type along to help out and advise. If you are really keen, or nervy on range and relaibility there is the Havengore route, which will teach you how to work a tide with the stake of a few hours on the putty if you get it wrong.

In sensible weather and being confident in the boat its an easy and fun trip to do. See the big ships as you cross the deep water channels and blast your way up the coast to Swallowtail, big handful of port wheel and potter up the Crouch. Don't do what I did last time and creep over the spit on a lowish tide, following someone who draws 9" less than you do:-) It worked, and was a useful short cut, if scary to see the bottom so clearly.

Keep us posted.

This post makes me feel like the biggest noob ever, its like its in a different language.

I have Kev, its almost twice as much as the one im looking at though, also, to add the boat im looking at has had the outdrive fully rebuilt, and the exterior looks to be in very good condition.

Appreciate all the help dude, cheers.

Sheerness to Burnham = 34 miles according to the almanac.
Burnham to Fambridge is only a short run, when clear of Burnham and Rochester to Sheerness is no more than 1 hour
whole thing done in less than 4 hours.

It will need a nice calm day too......no winds and lots of sunshine

PM sent to OP.
