Fresh post to keep the topic on the board,
Sailing out of Port Solent on Wednesday I saw an open dayboat type with out board, acting strangly on the shallow section across from Portchester, looked like they were chopping something with an axe, they left towing a dinghy, after I had taken photos,
At half five this morning, Sunday, there was a very similar, possibly the same boat with three blokes inside, going round the pontoons here at Gosport Marina, taking photos of the inflatables and outboards hanging off the back of the big boats across from me. I dont think it was sight seerers, but who do I tell, I notice the harbour police arround the harbour a lot, but do we contact them? and how?

I was hoping that the harbour police might be more able to respond, its not a 999 thing, and the response times for ordinary phone calls to the police phone numbers during office hours......

The 'normal police' will not have time or interest.

The marine unit are a different matter. Certainly, you must contact them. Either by telephoning QHM (the number is in Reeds Almanac) for ther direct number or, if you see them nearby, hail them on Ch 11 (address them as 'Police Launch' if you cannot perceive the name of their boat). They are certain to be interested.

Did you report it to the marina office?

Always report suspicious behavior after all it could be your boat they target.

Also you can call qhm on CH11 to get hold of the police launch.

Hello Chrissie

As you thought that they were suspicious, then it would be a very good idea to pass your information onto the Hampshire Marine Unit which operates inside Portsmouth Harbour.

You never know, they just might have their own suspicious about the boat you saw this morning. Tell the Marine unit you have photographs and are willing to supply copies.

The Marine Unit can be contacted on: 0845 0454545.

Do it as soon as you can.

Hope they wern't eyeing my boat up on H pontoon /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I would ask you to have a word in the office..

As for standard police they are not interested... be there done that.... prap's they were after extra stuff for the boat jumble this weekend.

I understand the MO of the boat thieves is to steal a dingy, load it with swag and tow it behind them. Then, if they are challenged, they release the tow and try to disappear sharpish. Even if apprehended, they then have no stolen goods to explain.
