A) Modern - Sunseeker Manhattan 50

B) Traditional - Fleming 55

I brought Daffy Duck for a long walk around to my favourite, "I can't believe you made me walk all the way down here to see a slow boat" sez he

You guessed, my vote goes to the Fleming 55 - just about perfect imo

Manhattan for me - Sporty, stylish (to my taste, anyway), who cares if it's all gelcoat and plastic? I'm more interested in tear-arsing through the sea in something that looks like it's moving at 20mph before it has set off! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

My dream boat, however, money no object, is the Predator 108 - 'Shiver':

Monacoeye - Shiver

p.s: Great question /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

No contest at all.... the Fleming wins hands down. That is a proper boat. I will probably get flamed for this but as I am just old fashioned, those super sleek rocket ships do nothing for me. I like a deck with proper bulwarks that are safe, also an engine room you can work in, a stern that is sea kindly, and most of all... comfort and economy.

When i win the lottery, thats my boat or even a bigger version.

Well I can hope can't I

Cheers /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I like both. That said, Fleming 55's are amongst my favourites and I would prefer to have the Fleming than the Manhattan. I also have a quibble with the M50 which looks like the middle bit of the superstructure has all been squished up together to me. M60 is better proportioned for me.

The M50 has a fantastic amount of inside space but from whichever angle I look at them, the proportions don't seem right to me but if you're talking weekend boating especially in the Med, it has to be the M50
But for real cruising it's got to be the F55. It's a proper boat that will really look after you in a seaway

The Manhattan for me. Had a good look round the one at the Birmingham Show, a really nice looking and spacious boat.

so spot on, proportions have always been a problem for SS Manhanttans IMO

I would go for the Grandbanks? posted by Littleship, Fleming is nice also but I prefare the exterior lines of the GB, but I am sure the Fleming beats her up in the space...
lovely boats none the less both of them and I think not so slow as one thinks, as I think both have top 20s and cruise at around 15 knots economical...

The Fleming 55 is actually surprisingly small in some areas. The saloon is not large compared to the M50 and the F55 main cabin is forward rather than midships as in the M50.

This thread has really surprised me, not only is Mick really a Trawler man, but it seems that many on here are also. This leaves me one question..........

Why do I get such a hard time from many on here about my 7-8 knt cruise speed, /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif could it be that there are some very large underlying concerns about the fuel price for 2009 or maybe that bouncing off the waves is not what we really go to sea for. I must admit that there have been times when I've wished I could open the throttles and get back to port away from all the rock and roll.

In other parts of the world (USA and Canada especially the North West) trawlers far outweigh the sports boats and even raggies that of course could be due to the weather in those parts. Could we now be seeing the interest of Trawlers being increased in the UK due to last years weather and or fuel pricing.

As stated above this thread has surprised me!! and I'm pleased that I have my little 6-7-8knt Trawler. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
