We had some posh boaty crockery but left it on board when our old mobo was sold, so swimbo and I have been looking for some acrylic and/or melamine kit for our new boat but are finding the choice disappointingly limited. Any suggestions peeps? Preferably nothing in green please.

Likewise, I find the choice isn't very inspiring.
Much as Melanine is unbreakable I prefer the 'toughened/tempered glass' crockery.
The Plastimo 'Schooner' range is an example. Melanine soon shows the tea/coffee stains etc but with the 'Schooner' range I have to replace several breakages per year.

We have have 'Schooner' mugs and glasses but the plates and bowls are Melanine from a place off the North Circular that sells to the Chinese Restaurant trade.

I bought melamine thinking it would look good and last ages. It wasn't cheap.

What a mistake. I don't like it at all. Eating off a plastic plate just feels horrid. The cups were too small and had to be replaced with decent sized ones.
The cutlery scratches the melamine so it won't last long.

Definately going to replace it with proper crockery.

Try a company called Towsure, they supply the camping and caravanning fraternity and have some decent designs at reasonable prices.

Thanks folks. We've decided on the Argos/Dunelm route for crockery - melamine brings a je ne sais quio to the table which we decided was best left locked away in our 70's childhood caravanning memories. Swimbo has decreed that acrylic is the order of the day for supping our JD, Pimms, and Cobra's however. Not at the same time I'll add. Well, not normally.

Agree...looked for years at shows and 1000 pages of Google. Then at Sibs, it was there!
Guy was amazed, and almost gave it to us !
Be patient , is all all I can say!
Actually, we also had a problem with the size so it would fit in the cupboard holder. Most of it is standard size, which was wrong for us.
JLewis, M/S etc sometimes have something tolerable ;)

I'll vote John Lewis if you are looking for Melamine. They have a decent range of camping and caravan wear.

Bought some really nice stuff at the southampton boat show. Company was called Galleyslave. Think they also have a web site you can buy from

Take a look at Corelle. Heavy, quality, feels like China, but unbreakable, can be microwaved, 3 yr warranty. I'm in the Caravan industry and this is the new quality stuff to go for. Sold in sets of 4 (16 pieces), I have two sets on the boat.
