I used to live in England ( I am german) in the 80 th and kept a boat in Southampto for 7 years. My boat is located in Greifswald which is south of the isle of Ruegen, Poland is about 40 miles away, Borneholm Danmark is north. It´s perhaps the nicest sailing area in Germany.
I own a 31 foot Jeanneau Rush. I would like to swap the boat with somebody on the south cost in summer for a few weeks. I sail and own boats since 1981 and got lots of sailing expirience I dont know how miles I sailed, but it´s far more than 10000.
If you are you interested please send me a mai.

I'm afraid that I won't be available to swap boats since I will be coming your way this year anyway in mine but I can confirm that the area you write about is as good as you say. Around Rugen there is sheltered sailing and many historic sights as well as quiet harbours. Although Poland is just round the corner, the distances to other destinations is around fifty miles, or an easy day sail. Good luck.

Hi John,

long trip from the Uk to the Baltic. I came down the Rhine and sailed through Rotterdam alonge the coast and left the boat there. Would like to sail in england as well. In early summer we will sail to Russia and to Estonia. I throughed it might be an idea to swap the boat with someone since it is such a nice sailing area, but got no response. Too bad....In most years I sailed to England at the end of the season to visit Southamton Boatshow...but from the Baltic its too far.

Hi Frank

From my memory, the distance from the Baltic to England is very similar to that from England to the Baltic. The problem is the prevailing westerly wind, as you know, which makes coming here that much harder. I have several times sailed from our East Coast to Brunsbuttel in a little over two days but my record for the return journey is nearer two weeks. Other things being equal, it is easier for your folk to cruise here and be sure of getting home on time than for us visiting you, though we pensioners don't worry too much.

I think your idea is excellent and I wish you luck. One reason I answered was to give your post a little more exposure.

are we talking of a holiday boat swop here?
what if it all went horribly wrong...sods law....implications?

If we we're not prepared to be adventurous in our sport we would never do anything.
I lent my boat to a friend for 2 weeks cruising and all my insurance co wanted was a copy of his qualifications and added him to my policy for the duration at no extra cost.

Would love to discuss this with you but we aren't sailing for our holiday next summer so would need to defer the favour.

We have an Elizabethan 33 kept in Gosport.

East said but what if worst case say a boat was lost?[it is after all possible]...just wondering would the insurance be ok with it...valid point...expect a valid answer please...

That's what insurance companies are for. Providing you are honest with them, there is no reason why something could not be arranged at a reasonable premium.

When I asked about insurance for my boat if I let my Daughter sail it without me aboard they just said that if I was happy for her to use it they were too.

My parents did a boat swap with a fellow Leisure 27 owner on the Solent without problems, but nothing went wrong. The Florida swap may have been another make, similar size though.
