Does anybody know if there is a formular for working out a boats speed,or a program on the web for doing this as i,am trying to decide if its worth fitting trim tabs to the project??

Have a look at the bennetttimtabs.com website. Leastways I think that's what it's called. There might be some advice and help there.

I,ve found this but it dosn,t tell you wot units the weight of the boat is meassured in,ant body know industry standard??.

The square root of ;-total shaft horsepower/weightxconstant=speed.

this is on midwest performance boat web site and is used they say by mecury marine

If it's on a US site, then I'd put my money on it being in imperial units, so feet and inches, US gallons lbs etc.

Buit don't hold me to it.
