Hi,

Our beloved Numbus has just arrived with a very pleased new owner in Norway (didnt view !) after six, generally, very happy years of fun / ownership. Our extensive travels and experiences with her are at an end.

A pretty much prompt and totally hassle free transaction at a very fair price - thanks in the main to James Dickens our broker. I'd guess though that our boat at 25% of the cost of a similar new one seems pretty cheap though - thats secondhand for you.

It was perhaps interesting (and somewhat disappointing), following other threads on here of late, that we had mainly only serious interest from Europeans. Attempting to sell her lying in Mallorca proved pretty fruitless as well and ended up bringing her back to Southampton. Maybe on reflection we'd have been better sending her to Holland / Denmark - not sure.

At the end it came down to a Swedish Dealer (selling on) and our Norwegian Private buyer who just offered, contracted, paid and arranged collection all within 9 days. Pretty impressive given the tales of woe and needless both also happy to buy based on pictures / details / broker recommended and without a viewing or survey !

Anyway so boat gone and a bit of a dilema and heartache now with my much loved old mags. Any ideas ??
Motor Boats & Yachting June 2004 - Dec 2010 69 approx - odd one only missing
Motor Boats Monthly 2002 /2003 11 number, April 2004 - Nov 2009 63 total odd one only missing,
Yachting Monthly 2009 / 2010 about 10
About 20 other PBO & B&Y for sale etc

I'm really reluctant to just go to the local 'green' Council tip as surely there worth more to someone ?

I've tried the For sale section on here as well - silence.

Ideas please and happy boating folks

The fact it sold so quickly was maybe it was very cheap to a Norwegian, boats, cars etc here in Norway bear no relation to the rest of the world.
I imported a 4 yr old Bayliner 2655 when I moved here which I payed £12000 for which was £6,000 under list price according to the Bayliner folks in Windermere, so a bargain as the owner had to sell.
I ran it for 8yrs and then sold it for £30,000! so that was totally free boating, the first person to ring up offered to put the money in my account without seeing the boat as I was in London for the weekend and couldn't meet him until I got back, he was desperate to buy it before someone else made an offer.
A few Norwegians are now serving time for buying 'cheap' boats in the UK and sneaking them into the country, we are storing Princess 55 on the hard thats been impounded by customs for not being imported legally and I guy I used to work with served time for being a delivery skipper on a boat from the Channel Islands that was bought by a senior 747 captain of the worlds favourite airline, who apparently despite a huge house by the sea and a Ferrari or two and a wife who was senior anaesthetist in our local hospital so good combined income, and also owned a lot of business property and clubs obviously felt tempted to try and earn some more cash as this was the 6th boat he had snook into the country.
When customs rumbled him he fled the country and hasn't been since so has lost everything., tragic really as he was a really nice bloke, I had dinner with them many times and he used to lend me a Ferrari for the weekend when he was on a longhaul.

Norwegian Numbus sale

Hi

It would be helpful for all the many Numbus Owners out there for you to give them a steer as to how much you actually got for the boat - net!

As for the mags - how about the local Medical center or Hospital - plenty of hanging about in these locations...

Hi Rich

Mixed feelings I'm sure. knowing how you looked after your boat I'm not surprised she was snapped up once you had found the right market.

So what next, does the fact you are selling your mags indicate you are done with boating or are you starting to look for the next moneypit?

Regards to you and Mrs Mont

Martyn

Hi Martyn,
Really nice to hear from you.
Thanks for comments - very sad she's gone but to a family buyer, 6 seasons of enjoyment with the odd bit of 'character building' passages & moments as well, but time to move on.
We certainly used, and loved her fully during our ownership and absolutely no regrets. Better the memories than the dreams as one forumite states.
I passaged over in August from Alcudia to Barcelona as my last passage with her, a dolphin poped up & said 'adios' off Formentor, and next morning stood on the hard next to the travel lift and realised that the 30m manouver would be my last helming of her - choked.
Its often said after you buy and run your first boat you resolve what you actually want in your second boat but we were very very happy with her, perhaps it showed !
No immediate plans to buy another boat. We were due to go to the dark side in August but dipped out when stood in the brokers office, deposit ready, after resolving that the owner / broker were being 'economical' with facts / paperwork. Lot of wasted time and money spent and felt very let down so stood back and decided to take a gap year from ownership.
Managed to get my MCA 200t YM this Spring so think maybe I'm heading for the Skipper's market next year to get some miles in, we'll see.
Regards
The Boatless Skipper xx
