After many years of long distance voyaging I sold our Moody 38 last week. (Almost accidentally, but that's another story:cool:)

So now we are local coastal cruising for a while, I want a traditional 35ftish family cruiser and have settled on perhaps an HR 352 circa £70k. Anyone with one to sell let me know or does the panel have any other ideas?

Must have at least two double cabins and be a capable passage maker. :encouragement:

Good choice. Shame you missed mine by a couple of months, it was a beauty!

Why bother changing to a boat of similar agree and size, you could be picking up a load of trouble which you won't know about until things start breaking whereas you "know" you Moody 38?

They seem to sail very nicely indeed. I have seen one perform at close quarters and they also go well in light weather - the touchstone of a good boat of this type, I suspect.

I guess you have seen the lot, always interesting to know what a broker would have.

But, didn't you state on another thread, that you were fed up with all the maintainance jobs you had to do on it?

But that's part and parcel of buying an older boat, as John is well aware. Mine was the best-presented 352 on the market and, as one of the last few built, one of the newest. Presumably, if he's looking for an HR352, he knows that it'll be at least 24 years old and will need more maintenance than a new boat. I was fed up with the time I spent on maintenance, and didn't want to pay someone to do it for me, which is why I wanted a newer boat.

Jonic,

I have a chum who has been a pro delivery and /or onboard skipper on large boats 20 yrs +, a qualified Master Mariner who I'd trust my life and boat to in any weather.

He sails an E-Boat for fun and is no slouch in performance terms.

I asked Chris recently ' what would you have personally, money no object ? '

" Halberg Rassey, no question "

Many thanks for the replies and PM's

To answer some of the questions, yes I am aware of the maintenance issues, I did pretty much nothing but on our 8 year cruise :)

I could look at a newer modern production boat, but after years in the business and seeing or sailing 100's of yachts the HR is ticking all my current boxes. But I will want a thoroughly sorted one - not a project :encouragement:

Shame we missed yours PVB - did you have a website?

Because of time and business constraints will probably stick to local yachts, but if not, Pete at Halcyon would be first choice for a delivery :encouragement:

A little while ago, I had decided that a HR352 was exactly the boat I wanted. Then I went to view one. I don't want to diss 352 owners, and I still think they're great boats, but down below, I felt like I was in a mahogany cave! For its size it felt dark and cramped - quite a contrast to your M38... If you want to downsize, how about a nice M35 ;-)

Get an HR they are awesome boats. Give Jeremy a call at Transworld yachts. Solid boat with high safety ratings.

Loads of them down at Hamble.

Alternatively, take a share in a HR48 based out in the Med. I know one of the owners, spread the bill 4 ways :))

Yes, I put together a comprehensive website, which resulted in many enquiries from around Europe, and saved me about £7.5K in broker's fees! I've taken most of the website offline now, but all the photos are still there if you're interested - www.hr352.info
