Boat Sinks in the Forth

Just heard on local news 4 people out today on the Forth with their new 17ft speedboat. swamped and capsized all rescued after one swims for almost an hour.
Anyone know what happened weather seemed ok today,
Ive got a 17ft speedboat kept there.
Now I got the other half saying I told you so its too dangerous
out in the Forth - Oh no!
Glad to hear they got rescued - should have had a radio though! I dont think I could swim for forty minutes out there!

Likewise, glad they are all ok.

You would be amazed at how long you can swim for, even against strong currents and with good sized waves; after all there is only one alternative. I have no natural buoyancy and managed to get back to shore in one of the less hospitable bits of water around, my arm and leg muscles were bright red and I ached for a week afterward.

Sea rescue after man swam for aid

Three men have been rescued from the Firth of Forth after their friend swam for an hour to raise the alarm.

The group ran into trouble at about midday when their 12ft-long motorboat was swamped and capsized.

An RNLI crew found the boat about two miles east of Kircaldy. Three of the men were clinging to the hull and one had to be pulled from the water.

The coastguard said the men, who were being treated for suspected hypothermia, had overloaded the boat.

Conditions at the time were good but the men, who were in their 20s and 30s, had only taken the boat out once before.

The boat was towed to shore by a fishing vessel.

Hello AWOL. Glad to see someone from Port Edgar.
What a place the Forth is - I think Ive only managed about ten times out this season with weather. Even abandoned launch about six times when already on the slipway with the fast moving clouds and downpours. You wouldnt have a RIB for sale?????

The Forth is not the best place to use small sports boats. There is a horrible swell and small boats don't cope well. I tried on at least half a dozen occasions to get out to the Isle of May in 21ft boat - never made it.

I did launch at North Berwick a few times and went round Bass Rock - didn't much like the smell though. Another place to launch was near the Cockenzie power station. Port Edgar is not a good place to launch a small powerboat IMHO

Does not surprise me that a boat of the size mentioned got swamped.
