was there a mayday for a sinking boat with 4 persons on it on sunday night in the clyde?

anyone know any details? hopefully they were alright, as can't find anything on google...

Nothing, either, at http://www.dft.gov.uk/mca/mcga07-home/newsandpublications/press-releases.htm where one might expect to see information. The last one from the Clyde was the coastguard observing a dinghy in difficulties from their window on 22May. They made no mention of the fact that the coastguard soon won't have a window on the Clyde!

Only a small number of jobs make it to press releases - for all sorts of reasons, normally we're too busy with other jobs!

Looking on our system, Clyde had a good few jobs that day so could be any one of them!

RNLI Coastguard and Police at Millport on sat.
Group of young folk had been drinking on the pier, one gets into a rib tied alongside, his mates cast him off to drift down west bay.
RNLI rib towed him back to pier where he was duly arrested on stepping ashore.
WPC took quite a bit of abuse from his mates, while he was stashed in back of panda box.
Later his mates were rounded up and cast off on a ferry when one of them decided to jump off the ferry about 40yrds out from Largs assuring his arrest too.
Could have been the drink or maybe the sun had some effect on them!

Sounds like an average sunny weekend in Largs/Millport; they suffer from having a reasonable beach and being <1hr from Glasgow, they are usually hoaching with pissed neds and sengas on sunny summer weekends.

it was at 2130ish, rescue 177 was retasked, tho they came back later, so guess the boat wasn't sinking or someone else got them.

maybe there never was a mayday, perhaps only a mobile call etc

We heard the ferry calmly reporting to the CCG that one her passengers had jumped overboard and was swimming for the beach, with ongoing commentary until he was ashore, and then a suggestion that the police be informed.

I think it would be unfair to say they were all from Glasgow.

RIB off Arran, sinking, 4 POB, call came in by phone. Was taking water but R177 confirmed not immediate danger of sinking and was retasked to an NHS job. Local boat stood by the RIB until lifeboat arrived.

Looks like they had a busy weekend

Some of the locals at Ardrossan have been on top form this weather, the free entertainment has featured singing, marching, flute playing, fighting women, swearing competitions, sirens, police cars and much jumping off the harbour.

Nearly got a pair of boxer shorts wrapped round the prop but thanks to my 11 year old bowman shouting "pants" as we came back into the Marina disaster was averted ...

...you just don't get that kind of value for money at Largs :-)

Well.. with them leaping off the harbour wall near the sea gate, there were a few discussions in advance on the chances of somebody landing on deck as we passed...... or meeting a group swimming to the steps on the west side :D

It did look like just plain good fun, though the sea is not remotely warm at the end of May

From what I heard the swimmer at Largs was not aprehended - swam ... and then ran off, so he could have been from anywhere (even Ardrossan). I didn't know he was connected with the RIB theft incident. I did hear that something like 3000 people visited Cumbrae that weekend (the Largs and Millport Weekly News is such a fount of knowledge!). ! ?

Aye that was only the folk who cycled around the island.
