SWMBO and I were both in the market for a new sailing jacket - both decided on the Musto MPX at the boat show today... we tried them on at the Musto stand (brand marketing only - they don't sell kit) then went round trying to get discount. Easily got a couple of swindleries to 15% off - one of whom told me that I had to agree to buy there and then - "this is a walk away offer" he said. I concluded, rightly, that he must therefore be concerned about the next stand down - so we went there... and got 20% off.

A small victory I know but we got our jackets without paying top dollar!

Your not wrong mate, been going boat shows many years now, and always drive my family and kids mad, making them walk around looking for a deal, and always have found that looking around and haggling always gets more and more money off!!

Well done and keep dry....your ganna need those jackets!! i am Brighton right now and its chucking it down!!

Another nite in on the forum I guess...

Any clues on who was cheapest? SWMBO is in the market for some comfy leather/Gore-Tex boots. Marine Superstore is usually about the best but I'd be interested to know what people have found.

I've just seen the latest ST issue and it features DuBarry's Fastnet boots which look very similar to their top of the range jobs but at 'only' £110.

Could be tempted but perhaps, in the first instance, you could test drive them and let me know /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well i noticed this year that there were not many chandlarys up there as on previous years. Not sure why? Maybe chandlary owners feel they have just as good marketing online so no need to pay £££ to get a pitch at the boat show?

Generally I find Alladins Cave to be very competitive and good service, although they have moved out of Chichester since last year, and unforunately the only chandlary's in the area now are consistently 10% to 20% more than Alladins Cave.

Tell you what I did find at the boat show - the only thing I did actually buy this year from a chandlary - Piplers of Poole have a stand - and they are doing the Ocean Safety life jacket light at £15 (£5 off) each - not very exciting but you rarely get any money off Ocean Safety stuff.

If you get a chance look at the Ocean Safety stand - they have a new 175N life jacket available for £99, its all singing and all dancing, with mesh sides for comfort, zip opening inflatable tubes, and has military style waistline adjusting straps, and if you wait for 2 or 3 months, you will be able to buy the harness version...well worth the wait I reckon...al the Volvo racers have got um.

Good luck and hope you get deal!
