Hi all
Can anyone help please? I've been searching the net, trying to find info on boat sharing and an idea on costs. I've not had a lot of luck. I feel certain there must be loads of them out there, but does anyone know how to contact them. Or has anyone had experience of them?....good or bad.

Thanks

YM normally carries an advert for Yacht Fractions if that's what you mean.

A quick google search will give you their website.

Thanks very much Goodge. This site looks interesting...
But if anyone has experience of this method of 'ownership' I'd be interested to hear of it.

be carefull..consider the cost work and your portion of expences.. who the other partners are and why they want to share..buying into a boat share can be easy ..selling out can be a nightmare...seriously think about bareboat charter for the time you need a boat ..or own your boat outright IMHO

Some of us own a boat not just for the joy of sailing but for the joy of do it yourself, invent yourself do your own thing modifications and maintenance. If you were in a share group I imagine that you would end up having most work done professionally (hopefully properly)and rely on insurance and professional repair for damage repair, with a feeling that it is not really yours. All this looks to me like a boat charter, something you can do anywhere in the world at similar cost to ownership.
So if you are one who would have all work done by others then sure share may be OK but why not charter but if you are one to do your own thing then you need to own the boat outright so you can make your own mistakes and repair them. ( the boat becomes an expression of yourself) regards will

All of the previous comments are quite valid. I've shared a boat for 12 years and for the most part it has been harmonious. This is because the share is with my Wife's sister and her husband, on a four equal shares basis. Whilst this works very well, there have nevertheless been "opportunities" for problems along the way. I would not wish to enter into a strictly commercial partnership.

Hi, I have been in a share for about three years now, and I must say it works well, all costs a divided by 4 in our case, the boat is better maintained than single ownership, but gets perhaps 4 times the use.
If all are considerate then it works, like leaving it clean, diesel topped up you know the sort of stuff.
PM me if you want to know more.
Dont be put of by some horror stories as sombody said you only hear the bad It can work very well.
