I was wondering if anyone if anyone has had any dealings with boat sharing on an informal basis. I own a 30' yacht moored in North Wales problem is none of my pals/family have any interest whatsoever.Where would you post an ad to find like minded souls that want to sail and lend a hand with maintenance . I'm not looking for any money or to sell half my boat. Just seems a shame I have a boat hardly used and no doubt there are folks out there dying to get on the water.

I reckon a good start might be to become a member of your local sailing club, where there will be several opportunities for crew finding. Personally I found that offering dinghy sailors and aspiring Day Skipper/Competent Crews an opportunity to experience yacht handling gave myself and them plenty to talk about: they will be amazed at the difference in reactions from their dinghy to yacht, and will be a keen crew for longer cruises ,or dare I say it...racing!!
I am now retired and you'd think it would be easy to get out sailing regularly, but the crew problem is still there- every one else is at work midweek when its quieter.
It is very satisfying to have a novice build their skills aboard my boat, I've helped with these over 30 years ;of course you may get to the point that they then get their own boat..........and hopefully repeat the process with new crews themselves.

yes a Yacht club is the way to go for crew. Our club have a notice board where crew can write their names and skippers can also advertise for crew.

We recently ran a crew competency course with 24 people and we have found permanent crew positions for all of them for Sun afternoon racing.

My problem for today is to find a boat (I am sure I can) for a couple who have often raced with me but I just seem to have too many for today considering expected light winds. olewill
