1st boat: 5mins on Ebay, bowrider found close to home, owned boat within 24hrs. Got rid as bowrider not for us

2nd boat: a day or two on fleabay, a visit to Wales, owned Cuddy boat within a weekend.. looked at two boats in total. Got rid as we liked the idea of staying on board overnight

3rd Boat: a week searching on fleabay, a visit to Torquay, owned 4 berth cruiser within a week..

4th boat: 2 months of looking, lots of rejected 30ft boats after taking a look.. lots of boat abuse out there! still searching all manner of sources :(

a wider beam boat that's within budget so we're not treading on each others toes so much when down below and also want an aft cabin with a door for privacy when we've got a couple of guests on board... something along the lines of a 2002 S28 (may stretch to an S34) or late 90's F33 are currently top of the list:) budget, as always, is a constraining factor

Can't wait to hear your progress reports Gary. I love this sort of thing..people finding the boat that finally ticks all their boxes. Good luck. Oh...and I hate budgets! they're just so annoying!!

thanks Lisa:cool: thing is though, I've yet to meet someone who has a boat that ticks all their boxes... 2ft syndrome;)

I like both the options you highlighted Gary. somehow I find the idea of a fly bridge quite attractive as it opens up options for the unpredictable British weather. is there much difference in the ongoing costs between te s28 and the f33? for me it was an important part of the decision making process. Clearly a34 foot boat will weigh more and cost more to berth, but I don't know about servicing costs. I wish you luck and can't wait to follow your progress on the forum. :-)

Don't let Rafiki know, but we are starting to look at a f/bridge. Interested in a P360 at the moment, but early days. F33's have great accom for the size, and lots to choose from. A friend has an S28 but this is too small below decks for us. Not looked at an S34 yet though.

careful... Rafiki'll throw her teddies out the cot and have a break down

one of the deciding factors for us may be the servicing costs in terms of lift out etc... we should still be able to get the S28 on the trailer for servicing, even if to just clean her bum or check something out with the drives on the public slip under the Itchen bridge... The F33 and S34 will be a no go in that regard which'll increase running costs to do even the most basic of tasks under the waterline... I believe there's less mpg with the flybridge, more plastic / weight to push through the water... berthing is based on LOA so no difference there

I'm not brave enough to try and get my Falcon 27 onto a trailer.

When I first started looking at boats I wanted to get a trailerable sized vessel, but somehow felt the extra space was worth the marina fees and limited traveling from the home berth. Now I'm not so sure it was the right decision, but I just can't help remembering how confined I felt in the smaller boats I looked at. I doubt I will want to downsize, even 'Thanks Mum' looks too big for me to feel happy trailering, so I would have to go really small. I think I need deeper pockets and something in them as well ;)

yep, me too... all I keep the trailer for these days is maintenance with the bat being tugged a few 100 yds from the slipway if the work's major... saves on lift out fees which can be significant if needed on a regular basis i.e. the boat's a lemon and spends more time out than in the wet stuff

Would need to be a hefty trailer.
S28 is heading towards 5000kg with fuel and water

Major advantage of an S34 would be the seperate forward cabin, but they need more than KAD32's if you're into speed.
