I've an old fibreglass triple keel cruiser that I want to scrap or give away as I'm past being able to renovate. Does anyone know of any boat scrapyards in the Dorset area that will take it?

You could always drop a pm to Trevera25 - he is our own patron saint of lost causes (and old boats) seems to be building quite a collection of "renovation" projects /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the heads up Cliff but I'm keeping my head down on this one , two was company , three made it a crowd , four would probably be grounds for divorce /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On a serious note though , e bay is obviously one place where this boat could be sold but it's not really the place for responsible boat owners to sell because it tends to be populated by dreamers with no real practical knowledge , a sort of wannabe type . They may well buy the boat for next to nothing but they'll have no idea what they're doing and are the sort of person that ends up in trouble on the water , so all these ' sell it on e bay ' comments are IMHO a tad irresponsible . Even I would prefer to see a boat chopped up rather than sold to someone that's going to get into trouble .
I don't want any comments about this being a commercial plug because until I start charging , my site is hardly commercial , but at least the people that use Sailroom seem to be a bit more clued up about boats so selling on there wouldn't be irresponsible
Bullet proof jacket on standby , but it's my opinion so do your worse folks /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Your eBay ad should read something like.

"A couple of weekends work to get this classic boat in top condition ready for the scorching summer"

I completely disagree with Trevera25 regarding his ebay comments. At the end of the day, if you can shift your old 'junk' for cash, who really worries about who actually buys it? I'm a seriously old and experienced boater looking for a (cheap) yacht on ebay at the moment - and I'm sure there are plenty of folk like me who sees ebay as another alternative to classifieds and brokers - we're not all kids and dreamers!

I agree with that too.Loads of people have come into the world of boating by buying a small cheap yacht, spending time and money on it then learning to sail in it.All part of the learning curve.

Years gone by it would have come from an advert in the paper or a yachtie mag ,now you can find them on ebay.No difference really.

As others have said ... eBay .... be honest - you'd be surprised ...

Sea Cadets ... Scouts .... Sea Scouts ... donate it for a project for them - as an Ex Scout Helper / Eventer - I was always looking for project stuff ....

Local Free-ads papers ... loads of avenues to try before cutting it up ... GRP boats have to be in preetty bad shape to be cut up ... as long as hull is repairable - she's a goer.

A member at our club who had the same problem bought an electric say from B&Q and reduced the boat to small enough pieces for the local dumpit to take. Took him a day and |I believe he paid the dumpit something like £30

I tried to give away an old bicycle once - put it in the front garden with a sign 'Free to a good home'. No takers.

Changed tack, and put a sign on it - 'For sale, bargain, GBP 10', and it was snapped up soon after.

Whatever you do, dont chop up your hull! There are many folk out there who would love to restore it - and it is probably mostly cosmetic rather than serious / structural work required (?).

Could you perhaps post a photo or two of her please?

Offering stuff free people will not take, put a price on it they will try to steal it, Sell it on ebay make a bit and who knows you may give it a new life.

Going back to the original post (but from a different perspective) is there such a thing as a boat breakers yard? If there isn't, there ought to be.
Or is it that by the time you'd have stripped a hull of the useable parts you'd be stuck with the hull?
