Hi Guys

Can any one recommend a nice, friendly Boat Saftey Certifcate Surveyor in the Windsor area. The old girls is due for renewal in June. How scared should I be /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Be very, very scared!

I just told the guy who looked at my last boat to take a hike! he wanted me to practically re-build the boat my the inside out! he looked at me and said YOU HAVE GOT TO!

I said bollox, I'm off! and I have never paid the Thames licence fee again!

But then I always did kick against authority!

Depends how easily you breezed through last time and how old the stuff onboard mught be.

Most of the marinas and yards will recommend an examiner and you might get a "tame" one.

Be there when he goes over the boat and best of luck.

Thanks Barry :-) if you see the old girl cruising towards you in a months time you'll know what happened.

Cheers Andrew - previous owner had it done last- don't think much has been changed since but then they seem to have changes a lot of the rules.

Here's hoping

Chap called Bill Kane. Super chap. A boat owner himself with a very realistic view of BSC.
If it passed last time there should be no problems this time.
If you still need a number let me know.

The rules have been relaxed a little with some items now just being advisory. I understand that everyone who had to cut holes in their cabin doors for extra ventilation can now fill them back in as the rules have changed!

Mine is also due again this year and I expect it to pass. I have removed the old gas fridge and replaced it with an electric one. So one less thing to fail. You can download the BSS book from the web and work through the lists to make sure everything complies.

What I don't get is why the EA expect a copy of the BSS on the day the old one expires, when you don't have to show your car MOT until next time you apply for a licence.

Thanks for the advice guys and offer of help Mike - I have down loaded a copy of war and peace and just cant wait to check everything :-) I have a gas/battery/Electric fridge but the gas pipe to it has been disconnected. I think it was like this when it passed last time so hope this will be ok.

Phew - it\'s all over now

Hi All

Well the day dawned dark and cloudy and (for the first time) I had a feeling of impending doom as I drove towards the boat this morning. Then a slight break in the clouds as I arrived at the mooring brought a smile to my face.

It was Boat Safety Inspection day (my first). Thanks to all you guys who gave me advice and recommendations. I went with Bill Kane. A really nice guy and I am pleased to say she passed with flying colours which makes Bill a really really nice guy. So new certificate and the threat of a sunny weekend, despite having to go back into work today (how I wanted to stay at the boat) life feels good right now.

So once again thanks guys
Nick
