Boat Safety Scheme Charges to Rise from 1st April

Must admit was expecting a tsunami of outrage about infringement of civil liberties and the restrictions on ones right to travel up and down the navigation with a death trap well beyond its
"sink by" date ?

That made me chuckle!

Especially as there isnt actually a certificate any more to have its price increased.

Not a peper "Certificate" but a "Certification" which is what we pay for.
The Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) Management Committee has agreed a new four-year business plan toresource its work to 2022 and invest in improvements that will have an even longer-term benefit. Theplan also includes the first price rise in certification charges for eight years.
BSS Examiners will pay a new price of £36 (excluding VAT) for each certification they issue to a boat, which is a £7 (ex VAT) rise that they will likely choose to pass onto customers.
The new price will apply from 1 April 2018 and the Scheme intends holding it for at least the whole of thefour-year business plan period, which is designed to coincide with the four-year lifespan of BSSCertification.

£7 spread over fours years not really much to protest about, unlike some I have never had a problem with the BSS.
There are more important battles out there

those outdrives for start :)

:) I'll try not to bite, but that did make me chuckle.
Currently have use of two boats 33ft & 35ft and its the smaller outdrive one that gets used every time mainly because of the nimble handling and can get in anywhere by raising a leg. The other shaft driven boat sits idle with a partially bent shaft and prop and the hassle of using it for a quick run out on the river and because it can't get in to the local pubs. The 35footer is made by Princess ;)

Haven't got the hang of a depth sounder and nose-in mooring then :disgust:

Windsor is full of 45 footers moored thus....:encouragement:

If you want the name of a long suffering propellor mender, am on first name terms and have my name on a parking space in his car perk.
However both my sets of props are OK.............for the moment.
About to start hacking the flybridge stainless rails to allow the radar arch to fully lay down for our much anticipated trip to your wonderful river.
My ancient vessel is non BSC compliant, you may well want to allow me in the locks alone and leave large spaces in front and behind me on busy public moorings such as the Brocas and Hampton court... :)

Hopefully you'll be speeding above the limit of 8kph/5mph/4.3196544276 knots just in tick over and belching smoke from the exhausts especially when surrounded by kayakers and SUPs in a lock chamber :encouragement:

my cunning plan to save forumites witnessing my highly amusing lock transit skills and to prove my total inability to get out of tight spaces on moorings without embarrassment has failed miserably.
You have been warned :(
