been wondering how to broach this on here... but here goes...

a TV company has expressed an interest in covering the restoration of my Osborne Kingswift. the time scale is short so to forward as a diy project will take time that i don't have. I have bee reliably informed that a certain popular boting magazine would also like to feature the task.... enough yet??

what i'm hoping for is people to come forward with offers of help in terms of materials, equipment and facilities to enable this to be progressed.

i have contacted a surveyor and he has looked the boat over, the work apparently isn't too onerous, but she does look worse.

in terms of visual impact (before and after) she'd be a fine platform for someone to be wearing a cap/overalls/in a workshop with the name displayed prominently.... am i making my point yet??

if you know of anyone who may be interested or just want more details, please don't hesitate in contacting me. unfortunately time is somewhat against us so a quick decision is needed to facilitate this project.

i hope there's someone out there who is able to help, or point me towards someone who might.

thanks for taking the time to read this.

regards, steve.

Watch out, Steve. They don't allow prominent logos to be displayed while they are filming. Getting a yard some publicity would be a lot easier. I had my first day of filming on Monday and I've got to say that it's quite tiring being an actOr. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

cheers Gordon,

i just have to get a project plan together... nothing definite yet.

i had a local yard in whom i had great faith, but they didn't get back to me in time for the deadline, although i'm trying to chase them up on this.

i'd like to go with this as it add impetus to job and might just get me moving!

my new job gives me the flexibility to take on this project, so i'm positive about getting it done before the autumn.

good to hear that your sharpie is coming along, look forward to seeing her.

as an aside, we're looking at having a social get together (see ad hoc) over the bank holiday weekend (end of may). so if you fancy meeting up with the gang we'll see you then.

regards, steve.

Steve,

Perhaps the paint manufacturers would be interested in offering you a good deal, and might even be persuaded to send an expert to the yard for a consultation on the best type and application for you needs. This would be good for the TV crew as it could get a lot of information accross quickly, and the paint company would be more than happy with cheap product placement, and would not be unknown for a large project. I should think trade discount at the minimum would be on the cards.

Same with the engines, mounts and alignment, the interior cushions and so on.

Wish you every success with it. I still think it cheeky for the TV crew not to pay anything at all.

thanks david,

this is looking to be a struggle!...

i'm still awaiting confirmation of the project. but i've made inroads into a proffesional yard undertanking some of the work. my boat is later than yours and is one of the first Osbornes built with GRP hull, so paint is not an issue... a suitable coating for the vast expanse of mahogany however, is.

i have replacement engines that would benefit from "proper" marinisation, but i'm working to a budget which must concentrate on the "visual" aspect to make it work.

if i could find a firm that would do a deal on heat exchangers etc i'd be halfway there at least. i'm open to any offers at the moment, as long as the project gets done i'm open to any concessions re. advertising.

thanks for your support, steve.

thanks David,

made some contacts in the later part of last week, still more to do..

a suggestion made that the boat could support the partners involved at boat shows, this is a possibility that needs to be looked into. only issue would be logistics. still hoping to find out this week whether this project is on or not...

finers crossed... then the real work will start!

steve.
